SUNRAZED FARM  ~ Miniature Cattle - Dorper Hair Sheep-Farm Fresh Produce-Natural Milk Soap
A small working farm striving to become
self sustaining with an Ecological Approach...

We  have always grown our own vegetables, canning and freezing when the garden's are
producing well some years better then others. Many years ago we began raising our own
meats, starting with pork, progressing to beef and now lamb.

Several years ago we began selling produce, and this past year we have added grass fed
lamb and beef in limited quantities. We have had a wonderful response from those that visit
our stand at the local farmer's markets.

We continue to strive to become more self-sustaining utilizing compost to grow our
vegetables which involves much more work and effort. Using little to no chemical fertilizer's
is good for us and the environment. At the same time we grow our vegetables on a rotation
cycle to limit the need for chemical sprays and insecticides. This rotational method controls
the bad or pest insects and plant diseases which in turn allows the good bugs and bees to
naturally control the pest bugs and pollinate in a natural and healthy way which nature
intended. We eat what we grow and grow what we sell.

This past year we have also added our natural hand made sheep milk soaps to our farmers
market produce selection. This addition will help us become more self sustaining in the
sense the sheep will supply the milk which we use for our wonderful rich moisturizing
soaps and will in turn help them pay for their winter hay, minerals and general vet care ect..

We strive to raise our animals as natural as possible on pasture grass and hay purchased
locally. We feed a corn, oat, and wheat mixture to expecting mothers to help them with milk
production as needed. We enjoy working with the animals and believe having a hands on
approach  provides a more humane stress free environment  for our animals.
All of our foundation breeding stock was purchased from reputable association member
breeders most of which are out of state. All of our stock have been vet inspected and health
checked before transport.
We are working on maintaining a closed flock and herd by retaining quality breeding stock
from animals born on the farm which allows us to better control the amount of exposure to
outside sources therefore providing a healthy more natural environment. We don't show
our livestock nor do we allow or  bring new animals to our farm. On occasion when  we
need to add or upgrade our breeding stock we always quarantine to isolate any issues
before exposing our stock.  We think we have the perfect small farm or homestead livestock
with minimal care and input for the all natural beef, lamb, pork and produce we receive for
our efforts.

~Why Miniature Cattle ~
We chose the Miniature Irish Dexter cattle for their natural small size and hardiness. They
are a dual purpose breed for milk and beef which makes them perfect for the small farm. We
have recently began crossing our Dexter's with the miniature Hereford to produce a heavier
more beefy  little bovine, which will provide a family just the right amount of meat versus a
half or quarter. We are very happy with this cross and should have calves available this
spring. These are truly unique little bovines any one can raise with just a few acres. No
special care or food is needed. We compare them to miniature horses or ponies as far as
care and uniqueness in the way of a pet type animal, much easier to keep fenced then
standard sized cattle or goats. Miniature cattle are  a wonderful way to raise your own
healthy drug and chemical free milk, beef and produce  as they will provide you with plenty
of black gold for your garden. We truly enjoy raising  these small cattle for us they are
considered unique lawn ornaments, or organic lawn mowers as well as all natural beef for
our freezer.

~Why Hair Sheep~
We chose hair sheep for their mild delicate sweet flavor. Because they are self shedding and
do not retain the lanolin as do the wool breeds they tend to produce an exceptionally mild
flavored meat.
Dorper sheep are a great addition to our farm  as they eat weeds and brush the cattle leave
behind. We are working towards a natural parasite resistant flock therefore we do not worm
routinely but rather on a as needed only basis. We use feeders in a way so the flock is not
eating what they are walking or making a mess in. On a rotational grazing system with our
cattle we are able to control the parasite problems that can occur which in are view makes
for a more maintenance free and all around healthy flock. These incredible sheep are great
mothers lambing in both spring and fall best of all they are self
shedding no shearing required a truly low maintenance breed. If you haven't tried
SunRazed lamb you are in for a treat as it is  much different then store bought lamb. We
love  the mild flavor, tenderness and slightly sweet taste it has.

We offer breeding stock and fresh wholesome farm raised produce as well as  lamb and
beef  when available. We will post where and what we will have available at the local
markets as the season gets closer so check back often.

SUPPORTING LOCAL 4H
We are very fortunate Mandy and Hunter chose to raise our lambs in the 4 H program. This was the first
year the Dorper's have been entered in a fair in Northern lower Michigan or perhaps the State of
Michigan. They did an outstanding job bringing these lambs to weight with wonderful handling and
showmanship. We attended the judging and showmanship and was very proud at how Mandy and Hunter
handled these lambs. When looking at the Dorper's compared to other breeds they are not as leggy or tall
therefore they have a shorter neck which allows them to put the growth or weight to the loin, and leg areas.
These Dorpers weigh out at the same or within a pound or two of any lambs they were competing with.
A Special Thank You to Kristi and Jim, for all the time and guidence they have given to get   their kids
involved in the 4 H program.  We all know parents provide the encouragement to keep their kids involved
teaching daily  responsibility and life long lessons.

Thank You Mandy and Hunter for making SunRazed
                                                Dorper's look so good!
